Manufacturers test in ideal lab conditions: a 70kg rider, flat surface, perfect temperature, eco mode. Real-world riding — with hills, a heavier rider, wind, and higher assist levels — can cut range by 30–50%. Our estimate uses 85% of battery capacity (reserving 15% to protect battery health).

Why manufacturer range claims are misleading

E-bike manufacturers test range under ideal conditions: a lightweight rider (typically 70kg/154lbs), flat terrain, perfect weather, and eco assist mode. These conditions rarely match real-world riding.

A 180lb rider using Sport mode on hilly terrain with a headwind might see 40% less range than the manufacturer claims. For teens planning rides with friends — “will I make it home?” is a real concern. Our calculator uses physics-based formulas to give you an honest answer.
